UNICEF concerned for children shaken by quake in Chile

The February 27 earthquake took more than 500 lives and destroyed or damaged at least 500,000 homes. While Chile’s solid infrastructure and advanced disaster-preparedness made it far less devastating than the earthquake in Haiti, UNICEF is planning with the Chilean government to provide important interventions to safeguard vulnerable children.

Kiwanis Worldwide Service Project: A chance to save millions of lives

In two weeks Kiwanis International will select the winner for a Worldwide Service Project for which UNICEF is a finalist. The project could save millions of mothers and their newborn babies from a fatal, but preventable illness. Though the vaccine against tetanus is effective and affordable, hundreds of millions of pregnant women go without it, leaving their infants unprotected as well. As a result, every four minutes a baby dies of tetanus somewhere in the world. Lend your voice today to support UNICEF's proposal.
